Gold or Silver: Find Your Metal

Every man eventually faces the same question: gold or silver? It feels like a style call, but it's really a simple matching exercise. Get it right once and everything you own starts to work together.

Start with your skin

Look at the veins on your wrist in natural light. Greenish veins and skin that tans easily point to a warm undertone, where gold and warmer metals sit beautifully against it. Bluish veins and skin that burns before it tans point to a cool undertone, where silver and stainless steel look crisp and intentional. Can't tell? You're neutral, and you can wear either.

Build around one anchor piece

Pick the piece you wear every day, whether it's a signet ring, a chain or a cuff, and treat it as your anchor. Match the rest of your stack to its tone so nothing clashes. A steel anchor leans silver for your rings and chains; a gold anchor lets gold tie the whole look together.

Mixing is allowed, with a rule

Mixing gold and silver looks deliberate when one metal leads and the other accents. Pick a dominant tone for the larger pieces and let the second metal show up in a single detail. Random is the only mistake.

Still deciding? Steel and silver are the safest entry point for most men: low maintenance, endlessly wearable, and impossible to overdo.
